The thing that started it
For twelve years, one of us did this by hand.
Someone needed a person. He knew the person. He made the introduction, and then he watched what happened next: a deal that got done, a hire that got made, a round that started moving, a friendship that turned into a company. Again and again. He never charged for it, and people kept telling him he should.
What he was actually doing was routing. Somebody had a need. Somebody else, three conversations away, already had the answer sitting unused. The only thing standing between them was that neither one knew the other existed.
That gap is everywhere. It is in every street, every workplace, every group of people who would help each other if they could just see each other. The help already exists. The routing does not.
Why nobody built this
Every social platform organised something. One organised identity. One organised moments. One organised attention.
None of them organised what people can actually give, and what they actually need.
The problem is hard for three reasons, and all three only stopped being blockers recently. What a person needs and what a person can give are both statements about being human, and routing them takes an understanding of meaning, so matching keywords was never going to be enough. Reciprocity does not survive scale without a way to measure it that keeps people from becoming scores. And nobody trusts a stranger without a reason they can read.
Those three things became possible in the last few years, all at once. That is the only reason this is a company in 2026 and not in 2006.
What we built
Gigets is a social network for mutual help.
You say what you need. You say what you can give. The match is found, and it comes with a reason you can read, in one plain sentence, so you know why this person and not somebody else.
Then two humans take over. Our colour drains out of the screen at the exact moment you are Connected, because from there it is a conversation between two people and we are not in it.
When the help is done, the Exchange is priced in Gigets, the internal unit, and it enters both records. Nothing is scored. Nobody is ranked. The record shows what moved, and what it was worth.
Gigets cannot be bought. There is no way to buy your way into being helped, and there never will be. The only way to have is to have given.
The system that does this has three parts. One holds what a network knows about itself. One decides who to route to, and rules people out before it ranks anybody. Where this goes.
The loop, closed.
A person helped is a result. A person helped who can now help two others is the point.
Every working institution of mutual help in history closed a loop inside a group of people who could reach each other, then stopped at the edge of that group. The loop closed locally and opened again the moment somebody stood one step too far away. That edge is the only thing between the way help works now and the way it could work, and it is not a law of nature. It is a routing problem nobody had the means to solve until very recently.
So the whole of it. Every person alive able to say what they need in their own words, reach somebody who can answer, and give something back to somebody else who needed them. Not a marketplace with better manners. The oldest arrangement human beings have, running at the size of the species, with the accounting kept honest.
We are not going to get there this decade. We are going to get one part of it right, then the next.
Artificial intelligence and human collaboration.
Almost every serious application of this technology so far points at replacing the human in the loop. Answer the question instead of the person. Write the thing instead of the person. Be the company instead of the person. It is a reasonable place to start and it is not the largest opportunity in front of any of us.
The largest one is the opposite. Eight billion people are alive, each holding knowledge, relationships, property and time that somebody within reach needs this week, and almost none of it moves because nobody can see it. That is not a shortage of capability. It is a routing failure, and it is the exact shape of problem this generation of models is good at. Reaching the quality of a 2021 frontier model became roughly a thousand times cheaper by 2024. That is what makes it affordable to hold a whole group of people in view for one person's question, and it is the only reason this is a company in 2026 rather than an essay in 2006.
Our position is narrow and we intend to hold it. The system mediates and never participates. Every automated output carries a reason a member can read, including the matches we did not offer. Nothing is optimised for time spent, because a product built to be finished is a different machine from a product built to hold you, and that is decided in the first month of building rather than in a policy written afterwards. The measure of whether this worked is not how large Gigets becomes. It is whether the person whose message found nobody got their thirty minutes.
A short history.
Sixty exchanges run by hand over close to a decade. Thirty of them documented case by case. Twenty-five institutions of mutual help compared across six centuries and five continents, on the same five questions. Seven ways they fail. Eight things every survivor had in common. One hundred and fifty-eight pages, written before a line of product code.
The research is why the refusals on this page are short and absolute. Every one of them is a failure somebody else already had.
What we refuse to build
We wrote these down early, so that they would still be true when it becomes expensive for them to be.
Attention is not the product. The loop is not for sale. No third party ever pays to reach a member ahead of another member. Grow is built to end, not to hold you.
No score on a person. We price Exchanges. We never price people. No leaderboards, no ratings, no number under anyone's face, anywhere in the product, the database, or the API.
No money between members. Money is the thing that turns a favour into a job and a community into a market. We keep it out.
Nothing that cannot be explained. Every automated output carries a reason a member can read. If we cannot explain it, we do not ship it.
No pressure. No guilt, no scarcity, no streaks, no countdowns. Reciprocity is voluntary, and a system built on it stops working the moment it stops being voluntary.
Every other product in this category is built to hold you. This one is built to be finished with.
