Gigets works because people who have never met decide to trust each other. That trust is the entire asset. This page is how we protect it.
Read it once. Almost all of it is what you would have done anyway.
How trust is built here, and why it is different
Most platforms build trust by letting people rate each other. Stars, reviews, a number under a face. It works, and it comes at a price: people become scores, scores become power, and the ones who most need help are the ones who never accumulate enough of it to be worth helping.
We price Exchanges. We never price people. There is no rating, no leaderboard, no score on a human being, anywhere in this product, and there never will be.
So we build trust five other ways.
1. Identity, proved in steps. Every member confirms an email. Most confirm a phone. For Exchanges that involve meeting alone, handling something valuable, or working with someone vulnerable, we ask for identity confirmation through a specialist provider. We hold the result, never the document. You can decline, and some Exchanges will not be open to you.
2. Vouches. A member can vouch for another. A vouch is a real edge in the network, it carries the voucher's own standing with it, and it is visible to us. Vouching for someone you do not know, or trading vouches, is a serious breach and it costs both accounts.
3. Delivery, not opinion. The record is what you have Settled: what you actually did, rather than what people thought of you. A person who has delivered the same kind of help four times is a better match than a person who says they can, and the product says so out loud in the reason attached to the match.
4. Circles. Most people arrive through a Circle that already knows them. Circles carry accountability, and a Circle that repeatedly admits people who cause harm loses the ability to admit anyone.
5. Claims that can be checked. Where an Offer depends on a credential, an employer, or an affiliation, we check what can be checked, and we mark the difference between what is verified and what is merely claimed. The professor you say you studied under and the firm you say you work for are two different kinds of claim, and we treat them differently.
None of this makes anyone safe. It makes dishonesty expensive and traceable, which is the most any platform can honestly promise.
Be who you say you are
- Use your real name and one account.
- Do not impersonate anyone, living or dead, or invent an affiliation with a family, an institution, a company, or a community you do not belong to.
- Do not claim qualifications, licences, employment, or experience you do not have.
- Do not use another person's photo, or a photo generated to look like a person who does not exist.
- Do not let anyone else use your account, and do not sell, rent, or transfer it.
Ask honestly, give honestly
- Ask for what you actually need, and say by when.
- Offer only what you can actually do, at a standard you would be comfortable having described out loud.
- Turn up. If you cannot, say so early. A withdrawal a day ahead is fine. Silence is not.
- Do not accept an Exchange you have no intention of completing.
- Do not renegotiate after delivery in order to move Gigets.
No money, ever
No money or anything of monetary value may pass between members in connection with an Exchange. That includes cash, transfers, crypto, gift cards, discounts, a job offer contingent on the favour, and "let me get this one". It applies before, during, and after, on Gigets and off it.
Do not offer to buy or sell Gigets. Do not advertise a rate for them. Anyone who does either is attempting to defraud you.
Do not manipulate the economy
The following end an account, and the entries are reversed:
- settling Exchanges that did not happen
- running more than one account, or coordinating accounts to move Gigets
- agreeing an inflated price so that Gigets move without matching help
- circular arrangements between members designed to generate balance
- vouching in exchange for vouches, Gigets, or anything else
- automating asks, offers, acceptances, or messages
Personal help only
Gigets is for personal, non-professional mutual help. Do not use it to source labour for a business, to substitute for hiring, to deliver commercial services, or to run a trade through it.
This protects you more than it protects us. Work performed for a business in exchange for a non-monetary unit can be treated as undeclared work by employment and tax authorities, and it is the member who carries that exposure. A properly structured route for organisations is coming. Until it exists, this rule is absolute.
Where expertise stops
Some help is genuinely valuable and legally bounded. On Gigets:
| Allowed | Not allowed |
|---|---|
| A doctor giving orientation: what this might be, who to see, what to ask | Diagnosis, treatment, prescriptions, second opinions presented as clinical advice |
| A lawyer explaining how something generally works and where to look | Legal representation, advice on your specific matter, drafting for your case |
| Someone explaining how a financial product or a market generally works | Personal investment, tax, or insurance advice, or anything about a specific holding |
| Someone who navigated the same immigration route describing it | Immigration advice, or preparing an application on your behalf |
| A peer who has been through something being present with you | Therapy, counselling, crisis intervention, or any clinical mental health service |
If you hold a regulated licence, you know where your professional obligations begin. They do not stop because the setting is informal.
Gigets is not an emergency service. If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number.
Never on Gigets
- Anything illegal, anywhere it touches. Including drugs, weapons, stolen goods, counterfeits, forged documents, hacking, fraud, and money laundering.
- Harm to people. Threats, violence, stalking, doxxing, sexual harassment, or organising harm to anyone.
- Hate and discrimination. Attacks on people because of sex, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, orientation, age, disability, or background. Refusing to help someone for one of those reasons is a breach.
- Sexual content or romantic pursuit. Gigets matches help, never romance. Do not use an Ask, an Offer, or an Exchange as an approach. Do not send sexual content. Do not continue contact that has been declined.
- Anything involving people under 18. Nobody under 18 may hold an account. Do not ask for or offer anything that involves a minor as a participant.
- Coercion. Using someone's need, debt, isolation, grief, illness, or immigration status to force their hand. Making help conditional on anything other than what was agreed.
- Extraction. Using Gigets to build a mailing list, recruit for a business, sell anything, raise money, promote a cause commercially, run a multi-level marketing scheme, or gather contacts.
- Getting at people who did not ask. Do not use Gigets to reach a third party who is not a member, has not agreed to be contacted, or has asked you to stop. Where the product helps you draft a message to someone outside Gigets, you are the sender, you take responsibility, and the message discloses that it was drafted with machine help.
- Political and religious campaigning. A Circle organised around a faith or a cause is welcome. Using the network to campaign, canvass, or proselytise to people who did not ask for it is not.
- Attacking the platform. Scraping, crawling, mirroring, extracting the record, reverse engineering, probing our security without written permission, or attempting to identify members from aggregated data.
Vulnerability, grief, and disaster
Some Asks come from people at the worst moment of their lives. When someone is bereaved, ill, displaced, or in the middle of a disaster:
- Sensitive mode is on. No story is generated, nothing appears in Grow, and prices may be waived entirely.
- Nobody may profit from it, in Gigets or anything else.
- Do not use the moment to sell, recruit, convert, or build a relationship for later.
This is the part of the product where the difference between a network and a marketplace is decided, and we will remove people over it without hesitation.
Meeting in person
Meet in a public place where you reasonably can. Tell someone where you are going. Keep the arrangement inside Gigets until you are comfortable. Stop, leave, and tell us if something feels wrong.
We do not run criminal background checks. No verification we offer is a statement that a person is safe. Your judgment is the last line and it is the best one.
Off Gigets
Conduct outside the platform matters when it is connected to an Exchange or to another member, or when it makes it unsafe for someone to be here. We act on it.
How we find problems
Reports from members, first and most. Signals from the system: patterns in settlements, sudden shifts in behaviour, accounts that look coordinated, claims that do not check out, language that indicates coercion or a sale. Human review of anything the system flags.
Everything we do to enforce these standards is set out in Reporting and enforcement, including how to challenge a decision and how to reach a person.
If you break these standards
We use the least severe measure that fixes the problem: a note, a restriction, a suspension, or removal. Serious breaches skip straight to removal. We tell you what happened, which rule it relates to, and how to appeal.
Misusing the reporting system, to harass someone or to remove a competitor, is itself a breach.
Report anything to [email protected], or with the report button on any Ask, Offer, Exchange, or member page. If someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first.
